Ride Zion on a motorcycle
Zion is the reason ZionRider exists. The canyon, the switchbacks up the east side and the tunnel through the cliff are some of the best paved miles in the West, and they're even better without a windshield frame in the way.
Getting into the park on a bike
- Fee: $30 per motorcycle, good for 7 days. One pass covers up to 2 non-commercial motorcycles and up to 4 people (NPS Zion fees).
- Visiting from outside the US? From 2026, non-US residents 16+ pay an extra $100 per person unless they have an annual America the Beautiful pass (NPS Zion fees).
- The tunnel: the Zion-Mount Carmel Highway, finished in 1930, runs through it (NPS). Big RVs need an escort and size limits apply between Canyon Junction and the East Entrance, so expect short holds. Bikes ride through with traffic.
Where to ride from Zion
- Zion to Bryce Canyon: east through the tunnel, north on US-89, then Red Canyon on Scenic Byway 12. Full guide.
- Scenic Byway 12: about 124 miles past Bryce Canyon and on to Torrey, topping out at 9,636 feet (Visit Utah).
- The whole week: Utah's Mighty 5 by motorcycle.
Before you ride
- Helmets are required under 21; eye protection unless your bike has a proper windscreen; filtering only past stopped traffic at 15 mph or less on roads posted 45 or under (Parker & McConkie). More in Riding in Utah.
- Summer afternoons in the canyon are hot; ride early.
